Flomerics is a company that does computer simulation of fluid flow and heat transfer. For example, they have a page about their electronic system simulation work that talks about their expertise in the field of electronics cooling. Being a world leader, they work with nearly all the major companies in the electronics industry.

As an entertaining example of what they can do, visit this Flomerics Youtube video to see how they have simulated a wing suit. If you don’t know what a wing suit is, go watch the video, which is fascinating although it has possibly the most bizarre choice of backing track I think I have ever heard in my life.

Their software can be used in conjunction with engineering projects to predict what would happen in real life. This not only saves valuable time and money but also helps take things beyond the guess work of the naked eye.

Inside Cardiac Arrest.com is a fantastic website about sudden cardiac arrest. When you visit the home page you’ll see an interactive welcome with a video. And then after that you can choose between two videos to watch. One about cardiac arrest and one about the human heart. I watched the one about the human heart and there’s some fascinating facts. Did you know the heart beats more than 100,000 times a day?

There’s also a download which is a risk assessment. You can download it here.

You can also read about ongoing heart treatment such as ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator).

This is one of the best, if not THE best websites I have ever seen for information. The technology on the site is something else, the information is high quality yet simple, and it serves a good purpose to the community. Well done to St Jude’s Medical, the creators of this website.

As we all know, Apple is the company responsible for the production of Mac (Macintosh) personal computers, the proliferation of portable media player known as iPod, and now the most desired and so-called Jesus phone which is the iPhone. But have you ever wondered what other devices by Apple had come out prior to the latter two devices I’ve just mentioned? Allow me to give you a brief history of the products that has been released by apple since the dawn of the 20th Century.

In year 2000, Apple released in the market the Power Macintosh Cube which is a CPU with a distinct vertical slot for loading DVD or CD. The following year, the company released several superb devices and these are the iBook, a laptop computer coined as “Clamshell” due to the similarity of its design to the said aquatic creature; Powerbook G4 Titanium, another type of laptop housing the G4 processor made by Motorola and later by Freescale; Power Macintosh Quicksilver was also released which is another type of CPU; iMac Patterns, are a bunch of monitors with a unique sleek design which comes with different lively colors; and finally it was in the same year of 2001, the first generation of iPod was made available to the market.

From then on, most of the releases in the following years are innovation, improvement and add-ons of the earlier ones. Specifically, the years followed paved the way for iBook 14.1, xServe, Power Macintosh Mirror, iMac, iBook G4, Powerbook G4 Aluminum, Power Macintosh G5, eMac, iPod 3rd Gen, xServe G5, iMac G5, iPod Click Wheel, iPod Mini, Mac Mini, Video iPod, iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle, iPod Slimmer Intel, Mac Pro, iPod TV, and of course, the iPhone.

Apple has produced so many brilliant devices in such a short amount of years, I wonder what’s in store in the coming years…

I’ve never fired a gun in my life but the website I’m looking at right now could just about change that fact.

It’s TJSafari.com and amongst other things they offer some very cool looking Namibia safari hunting trips. Most women I know don’t get the male fascination with this kind of stuff but I look at the photos on their website and all I can think is :

“Awesome.”

The package linked to is 9 days long and includes “1 kudu - 1 gemsbuck - 1 hartebeest - 1 springbuck - 1 warthog - 1 steenbuck or baboon - 1 duiker or baboon - 1 jackal”

I guess while you are there you can learn what a kudu is. I have never heard of them! However how good would it be to shoot a baboon. Does that sound a little crazy? I dunno, but even on television I find them annoying. One guy even has a picture of a dead shark with him.

While hunting safaris are something I have never considered and won’t just at this time (I am broke), they look like something sensational don’t they?

The iPod touch is out in the market. It has a distinct look from earlier releases of iPod. It looks more like an iPhone. The only difference with the looks of iPod Touch and iPhone is that the former slimmed-down and stripped down than the latter. As the name suggest, it features a touch screen system capability. Hence, users won’t have to rotate their thumbs to get to their song or video selection. This latest release of iPod has a wider screen. I am sure that many media file collectors like me would really want. This one is primarily meant to watch videos which is a plus factor for all iPod lovers. This is also ideal for storing and viewing photo collections due to its high quality top of the line 3.5 diagonal wide screen.

Another unique innovation of iPod from its earlier versions is the built-in Wi-Fi capability of the portable media player. With this release, users will be able to watch YouTube videos in locations where there are Wi-Fi connections. There would certainly no downtime for this one.

Despite its new additions, the new iPod Touch has preserved the quality of its performance. The music is still crisp and clear just like the older ones. The installation process is kept simple. All you have to do to get videos or music files is to connect it to a personal computer with iTunes program, load it up with the desired media files and sync. If you already have older versions of iPod, I am sure you are familiar with these steps. If you are fond of watching videos but does not have an iPod yet, I suggest that you get this one.

Every now and then one bumps into a website that is so comprehensive in its product listings that you just go : “Whoa!”. In this case it’s Optics Planet, a retailer of all things optics.

This is including telescopes, sunglasses, flashlights, digital cameras, microscopes, surveying equipment (!) and even… Leupold Riflescopes. Yep, Riflescopes.

Through the course of my normal working week I look at hundreds of websites and this one has really impressed me. It’s a very clean design (I love clean design). Honestly, I don’t know if the prices are any good but all are clearly shown against their RRP. I don’t even know what a “Burris FastFire Red-Dot Reflex Sight ( 4 MOA Dot Reticle) with Picatinny Weaver Mount” is, for example! :)

Anyway, I bet you don’t have a local store anything like this.

After Markulla, Apple brought in former Pepsi CEO, John Sculley. He is probably the most controversial CEO of Apple since it was during his term that Jobs left. He was replaced due to his ineffectiveness in managing the products of Apple. He was replaced by Michael Spindler, who was then COO.

Spindler served from 1993 to 1996. It was during his term that PowerPC was launched as well as the failed Newton poject. He was replaced by Gil Amelio in 1996. Amelio was also removed from position because of huge financial losses, including the $708 million lost in 1997.

Amelio was replaced by Steve Jobs, Apple’s co-founder. Jobs stepped in after his NeXT computers were bought by Apple. He took the position in order to help Apple in product development. Jobs is still Apple’s CEO at present.

Regular readers of this blog will have noticed that from time to time I engage in posts from Pay Per Post. Well, now I have signed up to SocialSpark, an initiative from the team at Pay Per Post.

I signed up very quickly and didn’t fill in many details but Here’s my Profile if you want to look at it.

First impressions : the site is cool. I think it’s a little OTT in terms of the design, a little crowded, but then again I am a fan of minimalism and not everyone shares quite the same ardent passion for it like I do.

I have had a little bit of trouble while there navigating my account. I guess once you are used to it it’s ok, but I find the layout isn’t quite as intuitive as it could be, especially as a regular user of Pay Per Post coming over here. For example it took me a little while to find the opportunities in the marketplace because I was looking for a button that said “Open Opportunities.” I guess they didn’t want to make a clone of Pay Per Post which is ok but will take some getting used to on my part.

Que mas, que mas…

Ah, I love the social aspect of the site on first glance. You can add other registered bloggers as friends and look at their profile. This is completely different to PayPerPost where you can’t click on any bloggers profiles. However if you visit the front page of PPP you can visit the blogs of the top 3 earners for that month.

Since 1977, Apple has had only 6 chief executive officers. Their first CEO was Michael Scott. He was formerly with National Semiconductor where he served as director of manufacturing. He was brought in by Mike Markkula because it was perceived that neither Steve Jobs nor Steve Wozniak was fit for the job.

He was removed from the position when he fired 40 employees during what was called “Black Wednesday.” He was given the title Vice Chairman and shortly after, he resigned from Apple.

He was replaced by Mike Markkula. Markkula was one of the earlier investors of Apple. He served as CEO until 1983, then served as Chairman from 1985 to 1997 – until Steve Jobs returned to Apple and a new board was formed.
